Miguel Viera, the father of Cruzeiro midfielder Lucas Silva, has suggested his son should stay in Brazil until the summer.

The 21 year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal or Real Madrid in the January transfer window, but despite the lure of a big switch to Europe, Viera believes Lucas would be best served remaining with Cruzeiro.

“The aim of Lucas, and therefore the family, is that he leaves in half a year’s time, in the month of June,” he told MG Superesportes.

“Negotiations are closed for now, but he can go in half a year. The most important thing for Lucas is that he completes pre-season with the rest of his team and represents Cruzeiro in the Copa Libertadores.

“Once everything is agreed, we’ll move to Spain to support and accompany him during his period of adaptation to the team and city.”
