Head Coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed Real Madrid’s interest in Cruzeiro midfielder Lucas Silva, as he looks to cope with the loss of Luka Modrić.

The Italian tactician is likely to be without the Croatia international until around February due to a thigh injury.

Modrić"s understudy, Sami Khedira, is out of contract in June 2015 and could possibly be sold on in January to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

With these two players not guaranteed to be at Ancelotti’s disposal, the 55 year-old admits its possible Real Madrid could look to recruit in the transfer window and concedes Lucas Silva is a target.

“We have to wait for the Christmas period, when everything will be much clearer," he told Real Madrid’s official website. “Then we"ll make a decision.

“We are interested in Lucas Silva, but also in other players. After the [FIFA] Club World Cup we"ll make a decision by evaluating the situations of the midfielders who are injured at the moment."

With the likes of Chelsea, Internazionale and Manchester United reportedly interested in Lucas Silva, securing him won"t be easy.

The 21 year-old has however, revealed that the chance to play for Real Madrid appeals to him and that Cristiano Ronaldo is a player he admires.

That stance may swing the balance in Real’s favour, but persuading Cruzeiro President Gilvan Tavares to relinquish one of his prized assets could be challenging.

Lucas Silva, along with the likes of Everton Ribeiro and Ricardo Goulart, has been instrumental in helping Cruzeiro secure back to back [2013 and 2014] Brasileirão titles.

The Bom Jesus de Goiás native has made 50 appearances across the past two seasons and was also part of the Brazil U-20 side that won the 2014 Toulon Tournament.
