Bastia striker Brandao has been jailed for one month after he was found to be guilty of headbutting Paris Saint-Germain’s Thiago Motta back in August.
The 34-year-old was captured on CCTV waiting for the PSG midfielder in the Parc des Princes tunnel after a game earlier this season, and was subsequently banned for six months by the Ligue de Football Professionnel.
Brandao will serve one month’s jail time and has been fined €20,000, and the veteran Brazilian has also been given an eight-month suspended sentence.
The player’s legal team have reportedly indicated that they will not be appealing the decision, although Le Parisien have claimed that the forward will serve community service rather than spend time in jail.
Speaking about the incident back in September, Brandao told Canal+ that he regretted his actions and that the attack was not pre-meditated.
He said: ‘I regret my actions and now I would like to apologise. I am aware of what I’ve done. I did not initially intend to hit him. It wasn’t premeditated. I wanted only to speak to him.’
