Atletico-MG have won the Brazilian cup after a 1-0 victory over city rivals Cruzeiro yesterday, resulting in a 3-0 aggregate score. Riot police had to charge onto the pitch as players broiled in the closing minutes of the game.

With five minutes left, tensions flared and it looked like a full-scale brawl might develop. Bt then Atletico’s Leandro Donizete was sent off for a needless foul and the match resumed.

Striker Diego Tardelli scored the only goal of the game to prevent Cruzeiro from winning the double. It was Atletico’s first Brazilian Cup triumph.
