Corinthians owned forward Alexandre Pato has admitted he would be open to returning to Serie A.

The Brazil international – capped 27 times – has spent the 2014 Brasileirão on loan with São Paulo, but that agreement expires on 31st December.

Pato’s spell at the Soberano has been productive – he’s scored nine goals in 27 appearances – and there has been talk of him remaining at the club beyond this season.

For the 25 year-old however, a move back to Italy, where he previously spent five years with Milan, could be a more tempting proposition.

“I am on loan at São Paulo until 2015, but I miss Italy and friends that I left,” he told Il Corriere della Sera, as reported by SOCCERNEWS.

“At the moment, there are only rumours, I am focused on São Paulo but I am a professional. Let’s see what happens, no?”

Pato first arrived in Italy in January 2008, after Milan signed him from Internacional for a reported fee of €22 million. The deal was originally agreed in August 2007, but FIFA regulations regarding non-EU minors meant he couldn’t move to Europe until he turned 18.

Pato was initially a hit with the Rossoneri and went on to be an instrumental part of the side that won the 2010-11 Serie A title and 2011 Supercoppa Italiana.

After that season however, injuries and a loss of form meant he scored just one Serie A goal across the next 18 months and he was eventually sold to Corinthians for €15 million in January 2013.

Pato spent just over a year at the Todo Poderoso, but after developing a strained relationship with the club’s fans, he was sent to São Paulo in a loan swap with Jádson in February.
