Real Madrid defender Marcelo has refused to be drawn on Xabi Alonso’s comments regarding who should win the Ballon d’Or.
The Bayern Munich midfielder was quoted as saying that a German player should be awarded the accolade, rather than his former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.
Speaking to AS, Marcelo insisted that Alonso was entitled to his opinion, though he did concede that he would give the Ballon d’Or to Ronaldo.
“Everyone has their opinion. I have mine and I respect what Xabi said,” stated the Brazil international.
“Me? I think Iker is the best, then Keylor Navas and Fernando Pacheco.
“Who would I give the Ballon d’Or to? Ronaldo, because I’m not going to win it!
“We know Xabi brought a lot to Madrid but the way this team is, when a very good player leaves another will come in. And the team is working very well.
“I don’t look at any other teams. We just do our work.”
