Atletico Madrid defender Miranda has admitted that he must maintain his impressive form to keep Thiago Silva out of the Brazil side.

The Paris Saint-Germain centre-back was stripped of the captaincy by Dunga after the World Cup, and is yet to start a game under the new coach.

Dunga’s second stint in charge of the Selecao has resulted in a five-game winning streak and they are yet to concede a goal since their 3-0 defeat to the Netherlands in the third-place playoff at the World Cup in July.

However, speaking to ca2015.com, Miranda stated that he needs to keep up his high performance levels to stay ahead of the former skipper in the pecking order.

‘Thiago Silva is an extraordinary player and we know that Brazil needs to be served by great players. I believe all players in the Brazilian team could be starters,’ said the Atleti defender.

‘We have a very strong defence and any player in the squad can play and do a great job. The simpler a defender plays, the better he performs.

‘For a defender, the secret to maintain a high level of performance is a good positional sense. Learning how and when to anticipate strikers is important as well.’
