Getafe defender Naldo is confident that he will improve by playing regularly in La Liga.

The 26 year-old – full name Edinaldo Pereira da Silva – is spending the season on loan at Getafe from Udinese and believes he’s better suited to football in Spain, rather than Italy.

“The experience in Spain is good and different,” he said, as reported by Inside Spanish Football. “It’s a similar style of football as in Brazil in many ways. I think that I have to improve but it’s very good for me to be here with how the ball is utilised here. It’s a different game from Italy though, which is stronger tactically over there, but this is an experience to grow.”

Naldo made just 13 starts for Udinese in Serie A last term, but this season he’s already featured seven times, with Head Coach Cosmin Contra regularly using him as an alternative to first choice central defenders Alexis and Emiliano Velázquez.

With Getafe currently sitting in 9th in La Liga, Naldo is pleased with how the campaign has started. But despite his optimism and admiration for Alexis and Velázquez, the São Paulo native is refusing to get carried away.

“I think that we are playing well but we have to work hard to improve,” he continued. “In defence, with Velázquez and Alexis we are doing very well but there’s still room to get better.

“These two weeks away from competition come in handy for us. It gives time to the coach who can better prepare us for our upcoming games after the break.”

Naldo joined Udinese from feeder club Granada for a reported fee of €500,000 in July 2013. He had previously been on loan at Bologna and played for Cruzeiro and Grêmio earlier in his career.
