Milan Head Coach Filippo Inzaghi has bemoaned the loss of Alex to injury during the opening exchanges of Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Palermo.

The former Brazil international had to be substituted after just 120 seconds at San Siro and his replacement Cristián Zapata would go on to net an own goal just 21 minutes later.

Speaking after the match, Inzaghi admitted that the enforced departure of Alex hurt his side, though concedes Milan could still have played better and will have to improve.

“Alex went off straight away. Zapata had to go on without a warm-up and he immediately felt some pain too. It was just one of those nights,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am the Coach, I’ll try to work out where I went wrong, but this squad must be allowed to grow in good time. It was a heavy blow, but we’ll get back up.”
