Former Botafogo defender Bolívar has praised the work of manager Vagner Mancini as his old side attempt to avoid relegation to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B.

Bolívar, who has only recently departed the club after he and three other senior players had a dispute with Botafogo’s chairman (which ended up in their dismissal), has come out in support of current manager Mancini, and unsurprisingly suggested the board would not be blameless should the club be relegated.

Mancini has faced numerous problems since taking charge at the Fogão in April, with injuries and big financial troubles affecting his side along with the aforementioned departure of key players.

Botafogo currently occupy a relegation place, sitting 17th in Serie A after 31 rounds, but the Maracanã based side are only one point off safety, a position currently held by Vitoria, and Bolívar belives Mancini has done a good job so far, as reported by lancenet:

“Mancini has been a key guy. He is very energetic. He’s a guy who is going through the same difficulty of the players, and he has lost four key men… It’s hard.”

Botafogo face a tough task away at league leaders Cruzeiro on Sunday as they continue their bid to avoid the drop.
