Campeonato Brasileiro Série B side Portuguesa have been consigned to relegation to Série C for the first time in the clubs 94 year history.

A 3-0 defeat to Oeste on Wednesday night confirmed the drop, marking a new low for the Lusa, with caretaker manager Zé Augusto unable to turn around what has been a disastrous campaign for the club.

It means a second successive relegation for Portuguesa, who were controversially demoted from Série A despite finishing in 12th position in 2013 after the Superior Court of Sport Justice docked them four points after the club fielded an ineligible player against Grêmio.

Relegation has been inevitable in recent weeks, with Portuguesa failing to win in any of their last 10 matches and having recorded only three victories all campaign long.
