Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon have targeted Grêmio defender Pedro Geromel, it has emerged.

Geromel, now 29, has previous experience of the Primeira Liga after an impressive three season stint with Vitória de Guimarães, after signing for the club back in 2005.

And according to the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha, Geromel has impressed Sporting officials, who could well make a January move for the centre back, who was voted as the Primeira Liga’s best player after the 2007-08 season.

Geromel’s current club Grêmio would be disappointed to see their current number 3 leave the club, after his impressive performances have contributed to them conceding the fewest amount of goals in the Campeonato Brasileiro this term, shipping a miserly 18 goals in 31 Serie A game thus far.
