Fluminense fans have been angered by goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri after his request for an increase in wages was leaked.

The experienced shot-stopper, now 31, has made over 100 appearances for the Fluzão, but has now fell out of favour with supporters after asking for a renewed contract which would double his earnings.

As reported by Goal.com, Cavalieri would receive about US $500,000 monthly if his request was granted, and despite his continuing good form for Fluminense in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A many fans do not believe he would be worth the outlay.

News of Cavalieri’s possible departure will have caught the attention of several major Brazilian club sides, with the likes of Flemengo, Palmerias and São Paulo all showing an interest.

A move to either side could be possible; Cavalieri started his career with Palmerias, whilst Flemengo head coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo is a known supporter of the keeper. São Paulo meanwhile will be looking for a replacement of legendary goalkeeper Rogério Ceni as he retires at the end of the current season.
