Milan defender Alex has conceded that previous employees Paris Saint-Germain wanted to replace him with a younger player.

The former Brazil international turned 32 in June and was allowed to leave PSG on a free transfer the following month, after the arrival of David Luiz.

Speaking to Canal Plus, Alex admits that he was frustrated to be let go, but is confident Luiz will form a strong partnership with Thiago Silva.

"PSG wanted to sign a younger player than me [David Luiz], you have to accept it," he stated.

"David Luiz alongside Thiago Silva, the defensive partnership of the Brazilian national team, it was an excellent idea.

"From my point of view I found it unfair because I was coming off a very good season, one of the best in my career.

"On the other hand, things like that can happen in football, I’m not sad."
