Veteran manager and former Brazil international Zico has refused to use missing marquee man as an excuse for defeat to Pune City.

The legendary Brazilian has watched his FC Goa side struggle in the inaugural Indian Super League, with his side failing to win any of their opening four matches, a run which has left them bottom of the table.

And when former Arsenal star Robert Pires, now 40 but still in impressive form was given a 2 match ban following Goa’s loss to Atletico de Kolkata, there is no question their hopes of getting a maiden victory sooner rather than later were dealt a huge blow.

But manager Zico remained in a philisophical mood as he refused to use the ex-French internationals absence as an excuse for FC Goa’s latest defeat.

“We shouldn’t worry about who was there or who wasnt there and what would have happened if he’d been there. ‘If’ dosen’t play football.” He maintained, as reported by the ISL’s official website.

“Even with him, we lost two and drew one.”

Zico’s men will be without Pires for the visit of the Dehli Dynamos, but the ex-Gunner could return for the game away at the Kerala Blasters.
