Brazilian centre-back Dante has been voted the best defender in the Bundesliga for the third successive season.

The 31 year-old has been a mainstay of the Bayern Munich defence ever since his move from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012, and his stellar performances have once again been recognised by his fellow players and Bundesliga coaches alike as he took the crown with 59% of the vote.

The defender was understandably delighted by the award but was quick to ensure his team-mates shared some of the acclaim. As reported by Lancenet, he said:

“I am very happy to have won this award for the third time in a row. Even as an individual achievement this is the result of a job well done collectively.

The award was voted on by the league coaches and players and serves as motivation for me to work and win more titles.”

Despite this fine form at club level Dante remains to struggle to secure a place in the Brazilian national side, having only amassed 13 caps to date.
