Shakhtar thrashed Poltava 4-1 in the quarter-final of the Ukrainian Cup after a devastating display by young Brazilian winger Bernard.
Taking a 5-1 lead into the tie after the first leg, a comfortable afternoon was expected for the hosts and it only took them nine minutes to stretch their lead after a fine Bernard cross picked out fellow Brazilian Wellington Nem who finished easily.
Oleksandr Hladkyy added a second after 20 minutes, and moments later it was three as star man Bernard grabbed his first of the game after the impressive Wellington Nem this time turned provider.
The moment of the match came in the 38th minute as Shakhtar really began to run riot with a fourth goal, the irresistable Bernard producing a wonderful finish to extend the aggregate score to 9-1.
Despite a consolation early in the second half for the visitors, nothing was going to take the gloss, or indeed the man of the match award from Bernard as Shakthar strolled to a convincing victory.
This was a timely reminder of the abilities of the former Atletico Minerio man, with Bernard not being included in the Brazil squad to face Turkey and Austria in the upcoming November friendlies.
