Arsenal are set to compete with Chelsea to sign Benfica attacking midfielder Talisca, according to reports.

The Daily Star claims that Gunners manager Arsène Wenger had the 20 year-old watched on Friday, when he was playing for Brazil’s Olympic squad against Bolivia, and was suitably impressed.

Talisca joined Benfica from Bahia in July for a reported fee of €4 million and has gone on to score six times in ten appearances so far this season.

Chelsea manager José Mourinho claimed in September that Talisca could have ended up in the Premier League, rather than Portugal, this summer, but work permit issues scuppered any bid.

With the Feira de Santana native performing so well at Benfica, however, the likes of Chelsea, and now Arsenal, have seemingly not been put off by the logistical problems that will come with signing him and could be willing to part with around €21 million to secure his signature.
