Flamengo defeated Cruzeiro 3-0 at the Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho on Sunday to reopen the title race and move into the top ten.

The visitors, with Everton Ribeiro, Ricardo Goulart and Júlio Baptista unavailable, fell behind to a 15th minute own by defender Dedé and never recovered.

The defeat was a second in a row for Marcelo Oliveira’s side and allowed Internacional to close the gap at the top to just six points with a 2-1 win over Fluminense.

After taking the lead early in the second half through Alex, the Colorado were pegged back by Fred’s 85th minute header, but 20 year-old midfielder Valdivia fired in just 120 seconds later to secure the victory.

Internacional are now 2nd – one point ahead of São Paulo, who were defeated 1-0 at 4th placed Atlético Mineiro.

Of the other six sides that make up the top ten, only Goiás – 3-0 against Coritiba – managed a win; Grêmio were beaten 2-1 at Palmeiras to suffer just their second defeat in eleven outings, while Santos and Corinthians surprisingly lost to relegation threatened Criciúma and Botafogo respectively.

For the latter, who had to cope without goalkeeper Jefferson, it was a first win in four and ensures they remain just two points from safety.

Elsewhere at the bottom, Vitória won 2-1 at out of form Sport Recife and Atlético Paranaense condemned Figueirense to a third consecutive defeat with a 3-0 victory at Arena da Baixada. Former Queens Park Rangers loanee Dellatorre netted a brace.
