Brazil Head Coach Dunga has questioned the appointment of referee Fan Qi for Saturday’s friendly with Argentina.
The Seleção defeated their South American rivals 2-0 in Beijing to retain the Superclásico de las Américas, but Chinese official Qi struggled to contain a contest that frequently threatened to boil over.
Speaking after the match, Dunga affirmed that a game involving such fierce rivals should have been given to a more experienced referee, but was pleased his side were able to cope with Argentina’s robust approach.
“Brazil and Argentina is a hotly-contested derby,” he said, as reported by GOAL. “It needs an experienced referee. Unfortunately, he was not prepared.
“This was not a friendly but a cup final. The tackling was very strong, but we were able to impose ourselves and mark fairly. It takes mental discipline when the opponent tackle so hard.”
