Shakhtar Donestk assistant manager Antônio Carlos believes former team-mate Francesco Totti needs to make sure he picks the right time to retire.

The 38 year-old was team-mates with Antônio Carlos, also known as A.C. Zago, between 1998 and 2002 and recently became the oldest scorer in the UEFA Champions League.

With Totti still able to produce his best, despite his age, Antônio Carlos is confident he can continue, but when he inevitably starts to wane, the former Brazil international hopes he calls it a day to ensure he goes out at the top.

“When will he retire? I don’t know! He is the first to arrive for training and the last to leave,” he told CalcioMercato.

“He wants to play and as long as he does well he should continue. When things start going a different way, it’s right for him to stop. He needs to end his career as a champion.”
