Mario Fernandes has discussed the modern day role of a full back and talked about his return to the Brazil national team.

The CSKA defender has been selected by new head coach Dunga for Brazil’s upcoming friendlies against Argentina and Japan.

It was the 24-year-old’s first chance with his national team since rejecting an opportunity with the Selecao squad in 2011 for a match against Argentina including just domestic players.

Fernandes was quoted by Goal.com and spoke about his role in the modern era, he said:  "I have to know how to offer more.

"Today, a full-back has to learn to score and help the attackers. I"ve always tried to do my best at CSKA in order to be here again."

On returning to the Brazil fold, the defender admitted he knew it would be hard to get a second chance but always retained some hope.

"I knew there was a possibility [of returning to Brazil], but it would be very hard because of everything that happened," admitted Fernandes.

"But I never lost hope. The door was opened because of my hard work in Russia. What happened was due to problems I had in the past."
