Midfielder Fernandinho is confident Manchester City can reach the Champions League’s knock-out stages despite Tuesday’s setback against Roma.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side were held to a 1-1 by La Maggica at the Etihad Stadium – a result that leaves them with just one point after two matches.

Despite their disappointing start, Fernandinho believes City can still progress, though he concedes they must beat CSKA Moscow in their next outing.

"It is difficult [to qualify] but we will try to do it," he told UEFA.com. "It"s not impossible, we have a big team and good players. It"s very important to beat CSKA now – if we drop points against them it will be very difficult for us."

City face CSKA at the Arena Khimki on 21 October.
