Group E

Right full-back Maicon had a mixed night for Roma in their 1-1 draw at Manchester City. The 33 year-old conceded a penalty after just four minutes for a foul on Sergio Agüero, but soon after hit the bar and caused problems down City’s left throughout his 89 minutes on the pitch. 

Maicon’s fellow Brazilian Fernandinho had a quieter night, though he did play the whole match.

In the early kick-off, defender Mário Fernandes gave away a decisive penalty, as CSKA Moscow lost 1-0 at home to Bayern Munich. Dante and Rafinha featured for the visitors.

Group F

There was seven Brazilian-born players on show at the Parc des Princes, as Paris Saint-Germain beat Barcelona 3-2. The home side fielded Maxwell, Marquinhos, David Luiz, Thiago Motta and Lucas Moura, while Barça included Daniel Alves and Neymar. 

Of the Brazilian players who featured, David Luiz and Neymar found the net, with Alves, Moura and Motta providing assists.

In the group’s other match, midfielder Gustavo Manduca netted to earn APOEL a 1-1 draw against Ajax. The cypriot side fielded three other Brazilian players – João Guilherme, Carlão and Vinícius, while Kaká was an unused substitute.

Group G

Diego Costa, Filipe Luís, Oscar and Willian all featured as Chelsea won 1-0 at Sporting CP. The home side, who lost their 16 match unbeaten run at home in Europe, fielded Maurício, while Jefferson was an unused substitute.

At the Veltins-Arena, where Schalke 04 drew 1-1 with Maribor, veteran Vijolice forward Marcos Tavares played 90 minutes, with defender Arghus an unused substitute.

Group H

Eight Brazilian players – Márcio Azevedo, Fernando, Diego Costa, Alex Teixeira, Taison, Luiz Adriano, Bernard and Ilsinho – featured for Shakhtar Donetsk in their 2-2 draw with Porto. The visitors also had a strong contingent, with Alex Sandro, Maicon, Fabiano and Danilo playing the full 90 minutes. Teixera and Luiz Adriano scored Shakhtar’s goals.
