Former Chelsea midfielder and pundit Jason Cundy believes Brazilian Ramires will be the key player when Manchester City and the Stamford Bridge outfit do battle this weekend.

The Brazil international has often been criticised by some of the Blues fans but Cundy wrote in his Daily Express column today, that he will be key in their clash against City.

Cundy wrote: “In all that midfield, it might surprise you who I think will be the key – Ramires. He is incredibly important to Chelsea.

“He is not technically as gifted as Nemanja Matic, who made his debut in that 1-0 win last season, or Fabregas, but what he gives Chelsea is that energy in those legs.

“He does not stop running, he makes long, lung-busting runs from defence into attack even in the 90th minute and has incredible stamina and pace over distance.

“Ramires does get some stick from Chelsea fans and sometimes his ball retention is not great. He gives it away when Fabregas would not. But he provides Chelsea with staying power, and for that he is as vital as Fabregas.”

Ramires will hope to prove Cundy right, and score another goal against City after netting against them two seasons ago.
