Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has claimed he signed Sandro from Tottenham Hotspur on a cut-price deal.
The Brazilian moved to Loftus Road on transfer deadline day for a fee of £10 million pounds.
Former Tottenham boss Redknapp, though, has revealed his surprise that he was able to get the 25-year-old for such a fee.
According to the QPR manager, Zenit St Petersburg had bid more for Sandro at the start of the transfer window.
Sky Sports quoted Redknapp, he said: “I was surprised we were able to get him, to be honest, and that he wasn’t playing more.
“I think Tottenham turned down a big bid from Zenit just before the start of the season. It was certainly four or five million more than we paid for him.
“So I couldn’t be more pleased to have him, he’s a great character, a good lad and I think he’ll be a great player for QPR.”
Sandro made his QPR debut last weekend during the 4-0 defeat to Manchester United.
