Chelsea forward Didier Drogba has praised team-mate Diego Costa’s start in England.

The Spain international, who was born in Brazil, but has duel nationality, was signed from Atlético Madrid for €38 million in July.

His opening month playing competitive football at Chelsea has yielded a return of seven goals in five matches and also earned him Drogba’s respect.

“Like me, he came to this level a little bit late. When I look at him, I can see the desire to win every challenge, to score goals. He’s very good,” he said, as reported by Sky Sports.

“He’s hungry for goals and that’s the best thing for a team like us.

“I think for him to start the season in England, coming from Spain, which is a very different league, and to recreate the same thing he was doing at Atlético, is fantastic.

“He’s really good and he’s enjoying playing here and being with us. That’s the best feeling he could have. He’s the striker we needed this season.”

Costa came to prominence after rejoining Atlético Madrid from Real Valladolid in July 2010 for €1 million. The 25 year-old, who was first signed from SC Braga in July 2007, was initially loaned to Rayo Vallecano for a year after a mixed 2010/11 campaign.

After returning to Atlético following that temporary switch, Costa went on to score 56 goals across the next two seasons and helped Diego Simeone’s side win the 2012 UEFA Super Cup, a Copa del Rey and the 2013/14 La Liga title.
