Prashant Agarwal, the Technical Adviser of Chennaiyin, has confirmed that Elano has agreed to join the Indian Super League franchise.

The Brazil international – capped 50 times – has been without a club since being released by Grêmio in August.

“We are delighted that Elano has decided to join the project here in Chennai,” Agarwal, who is also C.E.O. of Kshatriya Sports, told Sky Sports.

“Elano is an exciting talent whose technique and football fundamentals are up there with any player in the world.

“This is an exciting move for everyone in and around Chennai and football fans across India. We are looking forward to the samba magic Elano will bring to our team.”

Elano will play alongside fellow Brazilian Bruno Pelissari, former Manchester United midfielder Bojan Djordjic and French full-back Bernard Mendy at Chennaiyin, while 2006 World Cup winner Marco Materazzi is player-Coach.

The Iracemápolis native will hope his time in the Indian Super League – the inaugural season starts in October – can revitalise his career.

The 33 year-old has played for the likes of Manchester City and Galatasaray and won major honours at Santos and Shakhtar Donetsk earlier in his career, but was limited to just eight appearances during a loan spell at Flamengo earlier in the year and couldn’t convince Grêmio to keep him under contract.
