Philippe Coutinho believes he is a different type of player to Liverpool team mate Raheem Sterling but has backed the youngster to shine for his club and country this season.

Sterling starred for England recently and has been excellent when selected for the Reds this season.

When Coutinho spoke to the Liverpool Echo, he praised the attacker but conceded his team mate is much faster than he is.

The Brazilian said: “Are we similar players? We are both very different players because Sterling is very fast. I don’t have the speed to catch him!”

Coutinho does believe his team mate will have an excellent 2014/15 campaign and also discussed how important last season was for himself, labeling it as his breakthrough campaign after struggling with previous club Internazionale.

“It was a very important for me,” he says. “I believe I took the next step in my career.

“I am confident this will be a very good season for Raheem for both Liverpool and England.”
