Grêmio coach Luiz Felipe Scolari warned his players they will need to play better of they are to maintain their place in the Brasileirão G-4.

The Gaúcho club climbed into fourth last night with a 1-0 win over Atlético-PR, thanks to a late goal from Argentine striker Hernan Barcos.

“Today (yesterday) everything was going wrong. The passing was not good quality, we didn’t arrive close to the goal, we didn’t create anything. We had a lot of difficulty. We know that we didn’t play well,” Felipão said after the match.

However, the club’s recent form is promising. It was Grêmio’s fourth league success in a row, and puts them on course for a spot in next year’s Copa Libertadores.

In addition, it was the second successive game the side had managed to snatch in injury-time, following Saturday’s 1-0 win over Flamengo at the Maracanã.

“I see there is a little nervousness when we play at home. It appears that the ball burns the feet. This is normal. What worried me more was our change. This is a concern for the upcoming games, we need to correct this,” Scolari continued.

Grêmio will remain in the top four after the conclusion of the 20th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro tonight if Corinthians fail to beat Atlético-MG at the Pacamebu.
