Adriano has praised new Barcelona team mate Douglas but warned supporters the full-back will need time to show his true ability.

Many were surprised when a relatively unknown São Paulo defender, Douglas, moved to the Catalan giants recently.

However, the 29-year-old left-back isn’t surprised that Barcelona have made a move for the defender.

Adriano was quoted by Inside Spanish Football after speaking to the media recently.

“Douglas is a great footballer, he’s got plenty of qualities,” the Brazilian said. “I wasn’t surprised at all when we signed Douglas.

“He’s a fine addition to the team, but he will need some time to adapt.

“We need to talk to him every day to make sure he integrates into the club as quickly as possible.”

Adriano will do all he can to help new countryman Douglas settle at the Camp Nou, though Dani Alves – who Douglas will eventually rival for a starting position – is likely to be less welcoming.
