David Luiz could miss Brazil’s friendly against Ecuador this Tuesday with a knee problem.

The Paris Saint-German defender felt his left knee during Friday’s 1-0 win over Colombia, and was substituted by club teammate Marquinhos.

After the game, the Brazil No. 4 spoke about his injury. “I hope that it is nothing too serious,” he said.

“I fell badly and felt my knee. We are going to wait 24 hours, but this is a problem for an older player. Age is catching up with me,” joked the former Chelsea favourite, who is only 27 years of age.

Before being forced to leave the action, Luiz looked to close to being back to his best on Friday evening. Despite not being captain for the friendly, he led from the back with calls of encouragement and advice to his colleagues.

He also praised Dunga’s decision to give the captain’s armband to the 22-year-old Neymar, but believes he can help the youngster lead the team on the field.

“Neymar has very important functions in attack. We need him there at the front. I, in defence, have a complete view of the formation of the team, I can see the correct positioning. It is much easier.!

Yesterday, the Brazil squad was given a day off to enjoy Miami by coach Dunga. The Seleção trained this afternoon and tonight will leave for New Jersey, where they will take on Ecuador on Tuesday night.
