Basingstoke Town marketing director praises RonaldinhoRonaldinho hasn't responded to Basingstoke Town's offer
Basingstoke Town marketing director Simon Hood has admitted signing Ronaldinho would boost the club’s gate receipts but is unsure how he would fair on a cold, Tuesday night at the Soccer AM Stadium.
The English non-league team have made an audacious approach to sign the former Barcelona star and have yet to hear a response from the Brazilian’s agent.
Hood revealed he spoke to manager Jason Bairstow before making the move for the 34-year-old and when he spoke exclusively to Sambafoot he praised the 2002 World Cup winner.
“I spoke to the manager and he said ‘go for it, it would be fantastic for the club’,” said Hood.
“It was just one of those things, we thought how on earth can such a skilled, brilliant player not be with a team.
“It certainly would boost the club and the gate receipts, I am keen to try and get a shirt printed out with his name on!”
Hood then joked that Ronaldinho may struggle to play at the Soccer AM Stadium on a cold Tuesday night.
He added: “It might be a bit chilly for him (at Basingstone) and I can’t imagine him on a cold Tuesday night in front of 300 fans, especially when you have some of these dodgy defenders sliding around.
“I can’t imagine it would be his cup of tea but it would certainly get him ready for the Premier League!”
