Basingstoke Town marketing director confirms Ronaldinho hasn’t rejected club’s approach yet
Basingstoke Town marketing director Simon Hood has confirmed to Sambafoot that Ronaldinho is yet to reject the offer from the English non-league.
Hood spoke exclusively to Sambafoot and confirmed the Conference South team have made an approach to sign the former Brazil international.
He added that whilst Basingstoke don’t retain too much hope that they’ll be able to get the former Ballon d’Or winner to the Soccer AM Stadium, he thought the club have to make an offer.
Hood told Sambafoot: “Ronaldinho is considering us as far as I am aware, well he has not come back and said no just yet so for me that means he is still thinking about it.
“We were surprised he was a free agent to be honest but stranger things have happened in football and we are trying to raise the profile of the club.
“With the new ground potentially happening over the next two years we thought why not? Why not rename Basingstoke to Brazilianstoke for a couple of years!”
Hood admitted it is extremely unlucky that Ronaldinho will sign for the non-league team but had to make an approach after seeing the 34-year-old was without a club.
He added: “Realistically will it happen? Probably not, no but stranger things have happened and you can’t win the raffle without buying a ticket.”
