English non-league team make attempt to sign RonaldinhoThe former Barcelona ace could be playing non-league football
English non-league team Basingstoke Town have made an audacious bid to sign Brazil legend Ronaldinho.
The Conference South team, that ply their trade in step 6 of the English football pyramid, have contacted the 34-year-old’s agent over a move.
Ronaldinho’s brother Roberto de Assis Moreira acts as his agent and Basingstoke’s marketing director Simon Hood told BBC South that they have made an offer to the former Barcelona star.
Hood said: “We’ve put an offer to his brother, who is his agent, and look forward hearing back from him.
“We took a look at the transfer list to see which players were available. We were shocked to see that Ronaldinho was a free agent and thought what better way for him to get back into football than to play for Basingstoke Town.
“We are third in the table and it would be great for not only Basingstoke but non-league football.”
The Conference team have made a good start to the season but whether they could get Ronaldinho playing football at the Soccer AM Stadium remains to be seen.
