Enderson Moreira is the new coach of Santos after agreeing a deal with the Paulista club until December 2015.

The news comes after the club sacked Oswaldo de Oliveira following a mediocre start to the Campeonato Brasileiro campaign. With the competition almost at the halfway stage, the 2011 Copa Libertadores champions are languishing in mid-table.

With the sacking, de Oliveira, became the 18th casualty of the Brasileirão this season. Only 18 rounds have been played in the competition so far.

It had been been thought Moreira, who has previously coached Gremio and Fluminense, would be the new boss at Rio de Janeiro club Vasco da Gama. However, negotiations stalled once he heard of Santos interest. Adilson Batista resigned from the Vasco post following Saturday’s 5-0 humbling at the hands of Avai. It was the Cruz-Maltino’s worst ever result at their São Januário home.

Despite Santos’ disappointing league form, the side are looking in fine shape in the Copa do Brasil. They have one foot in the quarter-finals following a 2-0 victory away to Gremio last week, and de Oliveira was in with a good chance of landing a major trophy in his first year in charge.
