Cruzeiro are holding out for at least €12 million for playmaker Everton Ribeiro, according to Brazilian sports daily Lance!

The player is seen by French club Monaco as the ideal replacement for Colombian star James Rodriguez, who left after a the World Cup for Spanish giants Real Madrid.

However, the reigning Brasileirão champions have already turned down one offer from the Ligue 1 outfit, believed to be in the region of €6 million. Negotiations are reportedly ongoing as the clock ticks down on the European transfer window, scheduled to close at 11PM tonight.

Ribeiro was one of the best players in the league last year as Cruzeiro romped towards the national crown, and his excellent form has shown no signs of letting up this term either. The club currently sit eight points clear at the top of the table.

He earned his first call-up to the national side by new coach Dunga and is currently with the Brazil squad as they prepare for friendlies against fellow South Americans Colombia and Ecuador this Friday and Tuesday respectively.

Ribeiro has a contract with Cruzeiro until December 2016. But, at 25 years of age, the player has confirmed an interest to move to Europe.

Saturday’s 4-2 win for Cruzeiro over Chapecoense could well have been the last from the playmaker in a Cruzeuro shirt.
