Chelsea manager José Mourinho has conceded Diego Costa could miss Saturday’s trip to Everton after the striker injured himself in training on Wednesday.
The Brazilian-born Spanish international pulled his hamstring earlier in the week and it had been reported that he could be out for as long as six weeks.
However, the Portuguese manager believes his striker could make the bench, to put to bed rumours Costa could be sidelined for an extended amount of time.
Goal.com quoted Mourinho, he said: “He is a big doubt, let"s see.
“We are trying everything for him to play [on Saturday]. He didn"t train for the last two days. Today is the last day.
“We have to try and see if the reaction is positive. If the reaction is positive, we take him and select him on the bench."
Costa has been a revelation since moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer and has scored in both of his first two Premier League games against Burnley and Leicester City.
Mourinho will hope the forward is fit enough to make the bench and stamp his mark on a third consecutive game.
