Tottenham Hotspur’s Brazilian duo Paulinho and Sandro shone on Thursday night as the Premier League club secured their progression into the group stages of the Europa League.

New Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino handed Sandro his first start of the season at White Hart Lane against AEL Limassol after failing to pick the defensive midfielder from the substitutes bench in previous matches.

Paulinho started his second game of the season, after featuring in the first leg against the Cypriot club, and also shined during the 3-0 victory as the club progressed 5-1 on aggregate.

The Brazil international, who featured in the World Cup, played a part in the opening goal before scoring the second himself.

The former Corinthians man assisted Harry Kane’s opener with a perfectly weight pass before drilling in his first goal of the season in the 50th minute to cap an encouraging performance.

Sandro also impressed before being substituted to a standing ovation in the 78th minute.

The 25-year-old was at his typical best, breaking up playing with crunching tackles, and showing that he hasn’t been distracted by the constant transfer talk over his future.

The fan favourite has been linked with a move to Napoli all summer but judging on yesterday’s performance Pochettino may be better served keeping Sandro.
