Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has revealed he doesn’t discuss the competition for places with new friend Fernando.

Fernando joined the Premier League champions in the summer from Porto and now provides fellow Brazilian Fernandinho with more competition for a starting position.

However, when Fernandinho spoke to the Manchester Evening News about his new team mate and City’s seasonal hopes, he revealed the pair don’t talk about their reported rivalry.

The Brazil international said: “We don’t talk about that. But that doesn’t matter because if he plays one game, I can play another and sometimes we can play together.

“The most important thing is that whoever plays, does the best they can to help the team.

“And when we play together I’m sure we will do our best to help the team win the games and win the title as well.”

Fernandinho has been restricted to a substitute role in both of City’s opening Premier League games but after an outstanding debut season in England, he can expect plenty more opportunities in the coming weeks.
