Fernandinho has revealed that Manchester City are hoping to win the Champions League this season.
The Brazil international believes the signing of fellow countryman Fernando shows the ambition the Premier League champions have this season.
After winning their second Premier League title last year, City are now hoping to add European glory to their recent success over the past few campaigns.
Fernandinho spoke to the Manchester Evening News about the new signing and the target for the club this year.
The Brazilian said: “Fernando joining us is a big signing for us because the club is not just thinking about defending the Premier League title but also the Champions League.
“Our target again this year is to reach the final of the Champions League and I’m sure he can help us do it.”
Fernandinho believes whoever Manuel Pellegrini picks in midfield is capable of doing a job to ensure City achieve success.
He added: “Whether it is me, Yaya Touré or Fernando who plays – or maybe all three of us together – I’m sure we can do a good job in midfield.
“Our target is to produce the very best performances. We have the quality to do it (win the Champions League) but we’ll see at the end of the season.”
