Manchester City have won their two opening Premier League games of the new season and midfielder Fernandinho believes it is vital they start the 2014/15 campaign strongly.
The 29-year-old believes they need to get as many points on the board early on as the Champions League starts soon.
The Premier League champions defeated Liverpool yesterday and face Arsenal and Chelsea in their next three matches to demonstrate how tough their opening five fixtures have been and the Brazil international wants them to win them all.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Fernandinho said: “I think it is important to win these games because in our first five fixtures we face strong teams – we have Arsenal and Chelsea after the international break.
“Next month we start the Champions League as well and we will have games every three or four days. It becomes difficult.
“So it’s important we get as many points as we can early in the season.”
After bowing out in the round of 16 in the Champions League last season, City will be hoping to progress further in the elite European competition.
