Report: Santos defender Emerson has medical ahead of loan switch to Palermo
Santos defender Emerson has had a medical ahead of joining Palermo on loan, according to reports.
Respected Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the 20 year-old, who is primarily a left full-back, was expected to complete his examinations and the necessary paperwork on Saturday.
The deal is likely to be announced in the near future and is believed to include an option for a permanent transfer.
Emerson was given his Santos debut against XV de Piracicaba in January 2012 and has made 16 appearances in total for the São Paulo-based side.
This season, with Head Coach Oswaldo de Oliveira preferring to use Eugenio Mena and Ze Carlos, he’s featured just three times and last played in a 2-0 win at Figueirense in May.
Emerson will hope his protracted move to Palermo can give him more time on the pitch and though the competition at the newly-promoted Serie A outfit should be less intense, the former Brazil under-17 international will still have to compete with Andrea Mantovani, Zouhair Feddal, Achraf Lazaar and Fabio Daprelà for a starting berth.
