Liverpool’s Coutinho: I expected to miss out on the World CupThe Brazilian was disappointed to miss out on the World Cup
Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho has admitted he wasn’t surprised that he wasn’t included in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s World Cup squad.
The 22-year-old midfielder earned a recall to the national team this week as new head coach Dunga announced his first Brazil squad.
However, when the former Internazionale playmaker spoke to the official club website, he said he knew he wouldn’t get the chance to appear in the home World Cup.
Coutinho said: "In all honesty I did not have many hopes of being called up for this World Cup as I hadn't been named in the squads prior to the tournament.
"I tried not to raise my expectations because I knew it would be difficult to happen.”
Coutinho, who was speaking to Liverpoolfc.com before he receiving his Brazil call-up, admitted he still dreams of representing his country in a World Cup.
He added: "One of my dreams was - and still is - to play at a World Cup.
“In the end I was there supporting Brazil and now I'll try to work harder at Liverpool to get my chance with the Brazilian national team."
