Roma are ready to target Shakhtar Donetsk forward Luiz Adriano, if Mattia Destro is sold, according to reports.

La Gazzetta dello Sport, as noted by Football Italia, suggests that the Serie A outfit could be set to bid €16 million for the former Brazil under-20 international.

Destro has been strongly linked with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur or VfL Wolfsburg and as the likelihood of him moving on continues to increase, Roma Sporting Director Walter Sabatini has seemingly lined up Luiz Adriano as a replacement.

The 27 year-old was signed by Shakhtar from Internacional, where he lifted the 2006 FIFA Club World Cup, for a reported fee of €3 million in March 2007. Since arriving in Ukraine, he has won 15 major honours and scored 108 goals in 236 appearances for the Hirnyky, while last season he was top scorer in the Ukrainian Premier League.

Given his importance, Shakhtar would be loathed to sell Luiz Adriano, but with his contract expiring in June 2015 and the growing concerns over the conflict in and around Donetsk, they may be forced to sell.

If Luiz Adriano does move to Roma, then he could be joined in Serie A by team-mates Douglas Costa and Fernando, who have been paired with Milan and Fiorentina respectively.
