Figueirense scores late on against Atlético Mineiro to grab vital Brasileirão point
Atlético Mineiro disappointingly conceded late on at Figueirense to draw 2-2 in the Brasileirão on Sunday evening.
The 2013 Copa Libertadores champions were holding on to a 2-1 victory after goals from Argentine Jesús Dátolo and a penalty from Diego Tardelli.
However, Clayton scored in the 90th minute to grab the newly promoted side a vital point as they continue to adjust to football in the top flight.
Jesús Dátolo scored his fourth Brasileirão goal of the season after just eight minutes to give Atlético the lead.
An own goal by Leonardo Silva in the 25th minute leveled the scores though before the visitors were given an opportunity to earn the three points in the 74th minute.
Diego Tardelli scored from the penalty spot but Clayton’s late goal meant Atlético only picked up one point and remain 6th in the table.
Meanwhile Figueirense's late point helps them move to 19th in the table, just a few points outside of the relegation places.
