Flamengo’s renaissance continued last night with a narrow win over fellow strugglers Coritiba to leapfrog up into 14th place in the Brasileirao table after 15 rounds of matches.

The Rio de Janeiro giants had been propping up the standings going into the game, with their opponents only a place above them.

And Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s troops managed to pick up a priceless win over their relegation rivals thanks to a 17th minute goal from attacking midfielder Everton at the Estadio Major Antonio in Parana state.

The result is a welcome second in succession for Flamengo, who defeated Sport by the same scoreline a week ago; they next host Atletico Mineiro this coming Thursday in the knowledge that a win could possibly see them rise as high as 12th.
