Rogerio Ceni plays down title chances after Palmeiras win
Sao Paulo goalkeeper Rogero Ceni has moved to quell expectations surrounding a title bid from his team after their 2-1 win at Palmeiras saw them maintain pressure on leaders Cruzeiro.
An Alex Pato strike and a last minute goal from Alan Kardec, who was on loan at Palmeiras until recently, wrapped up the win for Tricolor.
After the game at Paecambu, the captain said: "Playing away from home, we got the victory. We now have 26 points, but reaching Cruzeiro will be difficult."
"Gremio is also rising. There is no point thinking about the title when we are seven points behind. Now we have a direct clash against Internacional (this Thursday) and despite being away from home, we have to fight."
Sao Paulo's game with Inter takes on extra significance as their opponents are second in the Brasileirao standings and a defeat would mean a probable end to any championship hopes for Muricy Ramalho's charges.
