Vasco da Gama level with Ceara atop Serie B after 2-0 home win
Vasco da Gama claimed a vital win in the race for promotion to Serie A by beating championship leaders Ceara at home in the second tier of Brazilian domestic football.
The Rio de Janeiro side went into the game on the back of three straight league wins, safe in the knowledge that they would tie with their opponents with a victory.
And Vasco made it four in succession thanks to a first half strike from forward Kleber, and a 57th minute goal from midfielder Douglas to double the lead and ultimately put the game out of Ceara's reach.
The same player had also missed an 18th-minute penalty for the hosts after a hand ball by Ceara's Helder Santos.
Ceara stay top of the Serie B table by virtue of having won nine games to Vasco's eight, with the latter enjoying an eight goal better differential after 16 league games.
