Paulinho is targeting three points from Tottenham Hotspur’s first Premier League game of the season against West Ham on Saturday.

Spurs open their league campaign this coming weekend and, especially following a change of management over the summer, they’ll be hoping to start promisingly.

The Brazilian midfielder talked about the importance of the opening game when speaking to the official club website, he said: “West Ham are a good team.

“But if we want to be better this season, we have to win our games and start well.

“I think it’s important that we are strong in the first game and then we’ll see how the rest of the season goes.”

The 26-year-old spoke about how difficult it will be to obtain a starting position after missing a large chunk of pre-season following his participation in the World Cup.

Paulinho is looking forward to the challenge though, adding: “Most of the players have had a chance to play this summer and it shows that Tottenham is a big club because we have top players.

“You have to fight for your place and I’m looking forward to the challenge, but I think the most important thing now is to think about the first game.”
